Candy Floss Skies

I always take the time to look up and appreciate the sky - it is often so pretty, both during the day and at sunset.

"The sky is an infinite movie to me. I never get tired of looking at what's happening up there." ~ K. D. Lang

Serenity Falls, Sunshine Coast, QLD

Buderim Forest Park on Queensland's Sunshine Coast, is a 45 hectare secluded oasis, hidden on the northern side of Buderim, less than a kilometre from Buderim Village. This is a rainforest world of tall trees, ferns, babbling waterfalls, cascades and bird calls. The area was purchased many years ago by the Council as a reserve for all of Buderim.

The falls were a favourite recreational place for the region’s indigenous people and have been unofficially named “Serenity Falls”, but are widely known as the Buderim Falls. Amazingly much of the creek actually belongs to private land owners as once did the waterfall!

A walking trail has been developed from two entry points. The lower entry is off Lindsay Road via Harry’s Lane, while the second entry point is via Quorn Close, which runs off Lindsay Road at the top of Buderim.

Wild Bird Wednesday: Rufous Whistler

The Rufous Whistler is a stocky bird with a large head, short stubby bill and a narrow, relatively long tail with a square or slightly forked tip. The sexes differ, with the male dark-grey above with a white throat, black breast and a reddish underbody. Many males also have a black face mask (except in northern subspecies). Females are dull grey to brown, with streaked underparts. Young birds are much redder than adults and have heavily streaked underparts.

The male Rufous Whistler is quite distinctive with its reddish underparts, grey head and white throat, combined with black mask (over most of range). The female and immature birds can be distinguished from most other whistlers by heavy streaking on the underparts.

The Rufous Whistler is found in forests, woodlands and shrublands, with a shrubby understorey. Is also found in gardens and farmland with some trees, and in remnant bushland patches.

Maroochy River Boat Houses

Dating back to the 1940s, the quaint little Maroochy River boat houses on Bradman Avenue are an iconic part of the Sunshine Coast's history.
Over the years, people have fished off the jetties or used them to sit and enjoy the scenery. They are extremely popular with photographers near and far.
