Brisbane City Shines

A couple of weeks back, Michael and I took an afternoon drive to Kangaroo Point Cliffs to capture sunset over the city. I also wanted to shoot the city at "Blue Hour", after sunset, as I hadn't done so for about 6 months.

Some "Golden Hour" light...

The sunset wasn't what most would call "spectacular" but it was quite serene.

Still some colour even as the city lights begin to shine.

I love how the city shines at night and the reflections on the river are beautiful! :)

Here's a close up of one of the historical wharves on the Brisbane River.

Chasing Waterfalls

Earlier in the year, we had a few days of very heavy rain (basically, the only rain we have had this year). As I have been wanting to shoot waterfalls for quite some time, Michael & I drove up to the Sunshine Coast to explore some of the waterfalls with our friend, Steve, who is a local.

First stop was Cilento Park in Nambour, a small park with a very little known waterfall. Our timing was perfect as it was in full flow.

Next we drove to out to Kondalilla National Park. As it was late in the afternoon, we took the shorter walking track which is a 3.5km return trip.
The view from the fist look out was stunning.

There were further breaks in the trees which provided beautiful views of the layered mountain range.

The track takes you to the smaller falls and rock  pools. It was so serene.

Sky Watch Friday: Nudgee Beach sunset

Nudgee Beach is a great spot for either sunrise or sunset when the tide is low or on the way out. There are sandbanks that seem to go for miles and many fantastic trees to provide great subjects for reflections. It's a very popular place for walkers, horse riders and photographers.
This particular week night, we had the beach to ourselves which is very uncommon. It was a beautiful sunset to witness.

There are 1440 minutes in every day... 1440 opportunities to capture a moment of beauty.
What moment of beauty did you capture this week?

Wild Bird Wednesday: Birds of Prey in the Scenic Rim

While out west in the Scenic Rim, I observed a number of birds of prey soaring. Of course, I yelled "Stop the car!". Sometimes Michael could pull over easily and others it just wasn't possible. Here are a couple of birds I did manage to capture.

First up is a Nankeen Kestrel

This isn't a great flight shot but I thought it showed the way this bird flies.

This next one is a Black Shouldered Kite

Kooroomba Vineyard & Lavender Farm

Last weekend, Michael & I drove out west to Kooroomba Vineyard & Lavender Farm. We have been planning to visit there for about 12 months.

The drive out provided a stark reminder of the affects of the current lack of rainfall we have been experiencing over the last 6 months. Everything is so dry in south-east QLD due to missing our traditional wet season earlier this year.

Luckily the dams are still relatively full so the farmers can use water for their crops or, in this case, their lavender and vines.

Only in Australia, can you go to a winery with a stunning mountain backdrop and see Kangaroos and Wallabies amongst the vineyards.

This one is a Whiptail Wallaby (he/she has a white stripe on the face).

These ones are Eastern Grey Kangaroos

This one is carrying a joey in her pouch.
